Join the SKYCTC book club Fall 2018 as we read Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly.
Hidden Figures is the story of four African-American women who worked for NASA in the 1930s through the 1960s. These women were brilliant mathematicians who were given the opportunity to work for NASA due to the labor shortage during World War II. They worked as human "computers" to help launch the space program.
Shetterly spent six years researching information about these women. She dug through archives and interviewed former and current NASA employees. Through her book, she gives a previously unheard voice to these women and we have the opportunity to read their stories and learn about their historical contributions to science and society.
