Citing Sources: Speeches

A guide to help students with the basics of citing sources and citation styles.

About This Resource

Avoiding Plagiarism

The resources on this guide will help get you started incorporating your source citations into your speeches to communicate with your audience and avoid plagiarizing.

Citing Sources in Speeches

The resources below will cover what you need to include in your speech and give you examples.

  • Notice that the student video is using MLA, but you will be doing your source list in APA style, so the link to the APA style references will give you the official format for your list of sources.
  • The NoodleTools video will show you how to create a citation for a web resource.

References Page

To create a References page for your speech outline, you can use the APA Word document in the Resources box to get started.

  • If you are using a source from a library database, just choose the APA style citation, doublecheck the format, and past into your References page.
  • If you are using a web resource, you can use the free tool from NoodleTools Express to create a citation for your References page.
  • Make sure to keep the doublespacing and font style by pasting using the "merge formatting" or "keep text only" options.
