Resources for career exploration in all SKYCTC courses.

How to Use This Guide

  1. Begin on this page and watch the short video about CareerOneStop.
  2. Then read an article from reliable websites and from library databases to learn about the importance of career planning. You may be asked to login with your campus username and password if you are working from home.
  3. Complete the Focus 2 Self-Assessments to create a career profile and find your Holland Code.
  4. Use the Occupational Outlook Handbook from the U.S. Department of Labor to find summary information about careers.
  5. Explore the resume builder in Job and Career Accelerator in Learning Express Library.

1. Watch this short video about CareerOneStop from the U.S. Department of Labor.

2. Read Articles from Library Databases to Learn about Career Planning

You will login with your KCTCS username and password if you are working from home.  

3. Complete the Focus 2 Self-Assessments to Create a Career Profile.

Focus 2 is an online, interactive, self-guided career, major and education planning system.

Click on the Focus 2 link to create a new account.  Use the access code listed.

Click on the FOCUS 2 logo to login to your account where you can create a customized profile with self-assessments and explore matching career options.

4. Use the Occupational Outlook Handbook from the U.S. Department of Labor to Find Summary Information about Occupations.

5. Explore Other Career Tools.

Click on the O*Net logo to find specific job descriptions, tasks, and skills you can use to help build your resume.
