Randolph “Randy” Pausch was born and raised in Maryland. He received a bachelor’s degree from Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island) and a PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), where he later became a professor of computer science. In August 2007 he was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. On September 18, 2007 he presented his last lecture to his students and colleagues, which he titled “The Last Lecture: Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams”. The lecture was recorded and uploaded to YouTube, which quickly gained lots of media attention. A book was published in 2008 that expanded on the message of Pausch’s now famous lecture. The Last Lecture was on the New York Times bestseller list for 112 weeks and has sold over 5 million copies worldwide. |
