About the Author: William Kamkwamba

William KamkwambaWilliam Kamkwamba was born in Africa in the Republic of Malawi.  At age 14, William built a windmill using instructions from a library book and spare parts found at the garbage dump.  This windmill produced electricity to power lights and a radio in his family home.  Since then he has built a solar-power water pump to supply drinking water to his village, as well as two other windmills.  Today, William is a student at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.

About the Author: Bryan Mealer

    Bryan Mealer was born and raised in Texas.  After getting a
    degree in journalism at the University of Texas in Austin, he
    moved to New York City where he worked as the assistant
    editor for Esquire Magazine. In 2003, Bryan moved to
    Africa to work as a freelance reporter. In 2008, he began
    working with William Kamkwamba to write The Boy Who
    Harnessed the Wind.
